This is a a free pattern for a long crochet cowl, designed to be looped around your neck for extra warmth.

What You Need:

Yarn: 200g Hayfield Super Chunky with Wool OR any bulky or super chunky weight yarn.

Hook: 10mm

Large eye needle

Stitches:

Slip Stitch (sl st):

1. Insert the hook into the work as directed in the pattern. Yarn over and the pull yarn through the work and the loop on the hook in one movement.

Double Crochet (dc):

1. Yarn over and insert the hook into the work

2. Yarn over and draw yarn through, pulling up a loop.

3. Yarn over and pull yarn through only the first two loops on the hook.

4. Yarn over and pull yarn through the last two loops on the hook.

Pattern (US Terms):

Row 1: Chain 100

If you are working in the round slip stitch to starting chain. Be careful that it doesn’t twist.

Alternatively this pattern can be worked back and forth in rows and joined together at the end.

Row 2: chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each stitch around, sl st to 1st dc.

Row 3-7: chain 3, dc in each dc across alternating between front and back loops, sl st to 1st dc.

As you start each new row alternate which loop you use to the opposite of the stitch below.

So if you started row 3 with a chain 3, dc back loop, start row 4 with chain 3, dc front loop.

Row 8: dc in both loops whole way around.

If worked in the round simply join with a slip stitch, sew in the ends and you are done.

If you crocheted the rows back and forth simply place the ends together and slip stitch around each dc to create a seam. Alternatively you can sew the ends together with a whip stitch.

If you have any issues please feel free to comment below and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
